TOWNSHIP ASSOCIATION MEETING – OCTOBER 31, 2026, AT 9:00 A.M.
NOTES FROM PINE COUNTY ASSESSOR/RECORDER, LORRI HOUTSMA
1. The local board of appeal and equalization schedule has been updated for 2027, and they were recently emailed to your clerks. If you haven’t done so, please confirm with me the date, time and place of your meeting for those of you holding your own meeting. If you use the open book format, you do not need to confirm. Once I receive all confirmations, the schedule will be posted on Pine County’s website.
2. For those of you holding your own meetings, you must have at least one trained member present along with a quorum. This information is sent to your clerks throughout the year. If you need to take the training, please reach out to your clerk or let me know, and I will provide you with the link. The most up-to-date training attendance list with the Department of Revenue (10/1/2026) was also sent to your clerks. For example, in 2027, your trained member is unable to attend the meeting,
or you do not have a quorum present. The County will then take over the meeting at your meeting place, so all appeals can be heard. The County then holds the meeting again in 2028, either in Pine City or Sandstone using the open book format. If you wish to hold your meeting again in 2029, a resolution needs to be filed with the Assessor’s office prior to February 1, 2029.
3. The sales study for taxes payable in 2028 just ended, i.e. qualifying sales from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. We are still receiving and accepting sales from September 30, 2026, and prior. I will be working on setting values through mid-March, and those values will be stated on the valuation notice enclosed with your 2027 tax statement.
4. Thank you for your time this morning. If you have any questions, please give me a call (320) 591-1634 (direct line) or reach out
