NOTES FROM PINE COUNTY ASSESSOR/RECORDER, LORRI HOUTSMA

TOWNSHIP ASSOCIATION MEETING
OCTOBER 25, 2025, AT 9:00 A.M.

NOTES FROM PINE COUNTY ASSESSOR/RECORDER, LORRI HOUTSMA

1. The local board of appeal and equalization schedule has been updated for 2026, and they were recently emailed to your clerks. If you haven’t done so, please confirm with me the date, time and place of your meeting for those of you who hold your own meetings. If you use the open book format, you do not need to confirm. Once I have confirmation from all of those holding their own meetings, the schedule will be posted on Pine County’s website.

2. For those of you holding your own meetings, you must have at least one trained member present along with a quorum. This information is sent to your clerks throughout the year. If you need to take the training, please reach out to your clerk or let me know and I will provide you the link. If for example, in 2026, your trained member is unable to attend the meeting or if you do not have a quorum present, the County will take over the meeting at your meeting place. The County then holds the meeting again in 2027 either in Pine City or Sandstone using the open book format. If you wish to hold your meeting again in 2028, a resolution needs to be filed with the Assessor’s office prior to February 1, 2028.

3. The sales study for taxes payable in 2027 just ended (10/1/2024 through September 30, 2025) and we are still receiving the last sales being recorded. I will be working on values through mid-March, and those values will be stated on the valuation notice property owners receive the end of March/beginning of April.

4. Thank you for your time this morning. If you have any questions, please give me a call (320) 591-1634 (direct line) or reach out by e-mail
(lorri.houtsma@pinecountymn.gov).
